About EDS
EDS is a part of The Salvation Army's ministry in each community that we are a part of. In larger centres, such as Edmonton, it is sometimes possible for this area of ministry to operate on a larger scale, with full-time staff and specialized equipment.
In Edmonton, EDS focuses on two specific areas of service - Emergency Disaster Response and Street Ministry.
Emergency Disaster Response works with responders and victims of incidents such as house fires, floods, police responses (such as armed stand-offs or the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs). This is often our more visible activity, and it requires preparation and training.
Our street ministry is continuing to grow and develop. We are working towards building partnerships with churches and other groups to establish teams that can reach out to those in need in Edmonton's communities. Currently our canteen is in use by two groups who reach out to the inner-city and Whyte Avenue communities.
